The RSP is a Marxist-Leninist grouping
that won four Lok Sabha seats in 1980, all from West Bengal as part of the Left
Front. Its 1989 representatives of four seats dropped to three in 1991. It lent
outside support to the United Front government at the Centre. Tarib Chowdhury is
the general secretary of the party. .
